Hey crafters!! What have you made for your baby lately? What are you working on now? I finally got my sewing machine out and made a super cute car seat cover! JoAnns was having a 60% off sale on flannel, and I love how these two prints look together!
I got a sewing machine, and I'm teaching myself how to sew! Here is the very first thing I've ever made--a cute zip pouch based on a pattern in Amy Karol's book "Bend the Rules Sewing." I know it's far from perfect, but I'm pretty proud of it! I still need to add the lining. The fabric is from my local Joann Fabrics store.

This is the second lesson from a great online sewing class I'm taking called Home Ec! frecklednest.blogspot.com/2010/07/home-ec-full-details-re... This is a drawstring gift bag. I have mixed feelings about this bag. I made it today, and for the first time since I started sewing, I got pretty frustrated. I was enjoying making it until I got to (for those of you taking the course) step 11. The embroidery floss rectangle did NOT work for me. I embroider, so that wasn't the problem. I had a really hard time reaching up under my fabric to embroider without catching the ribbon--it took three tries, and it still looks terrible. Basically, I feel like the bad handsewing on that part kind of ruins the whole bag for me. However, the process was a learning experience--which is why I'm in the class!--and I think that next time, I'm going to machine sew the rectangle prior to doing any other sewing. That may work a lot better for me. Some people have suggested buttonholes--I may do that, as it...

Though my Craftster friend Original Youth I found the Crafting 365 Flickr Group. The past few months I have been getting back to crafting as a way to be myself and work through some things in my life. I love the idea of this group and can't wait to challenge myself to craft every day and document the process. I made this bag this afternoon and evening. I had a hard time getting going today so I was happy to get this started. All of the materials are from my stash. The red is thin wale corduroy, the print purchased from when Craftmart by me went out of business. The black cotton straping I think I bought from JoAnns. The stencil is based on a clipart found on the 'net. This will be sent out on Monday to someone as part of a wish swap, hope she likes it!
