International Hair Dryer
Don't blow up your hair dryer. Plus, we blow up.
But much of what scientists do know about the extent of the ocean's heat-trapping ability is because of this international program, which has collected more than 1.5 million measurements. The aquatic To put the amount of heat collected into

Apply it evenly like normal, then rinse it out—it contains a small amount of surfactants (a hair-cleansing ingredient), so it'll do the cleaning you need without stripping your hair of its natural oils. Immediate After-Shower Care: Before you take a

The writing diary of a well-mellowed science writer who cares about the public understanding of science and knows the ropes. This blog bounces between my curiosity, the daily realities of professional writing, the joy of pursuing nature, and my recycling of ideas that won't be in some book or other as far as I can see, but still needed sharing. Far to my north, in Yolngu country, the stringybark is in flower now as Rarranhdharr comes to an end. In the Anangu Pitjantjatjara country, in what we call the north of South Australia, it is the end of Piriyakutu/ Piriya-Piriya, when the hibernating reptiles come out. The first Australians have lots of additional season markers for those seasons, as you can find out by searching on those season names on the internet, but I have my own local season markers. I react to the first blowfly, cicada or koel. first magpie attack. the first funnelweb (or brown trapdoor spider) in the swimming pool. and the first Christmas beetle, mosquito and channel-billed cuckoo. When my children were younger, they knew it was proper summer when first Bogong moth got in and started banging around on the ceiling at night. For me, high summer is when the trunks of the Sydney smooth-barked apple, Angophora costata , go orange-brown. We take friends on mystery walks that pass through a grove of these, just to watch their wonderment. For me, high summer is when the trunks of the Sydney smooth-barked apple, Angophora costata , go orange-brown. We take friends on mystery walks that pass through a grove of these, just to watch their wonderment. A few natural season markers come from introduced species, like the jacaranda time in late October. There is a University of Sydney tradition that if you haven't started studying before the jacaranda in the main quadrangle flowers you will fail your end-of-year exams. Sydney’s very first jacaranda comes out at Circular Quay, and I saw it the day I wrote this. But then I wondered about more human, more urban markers of the seasons, so I asked my friends what they thought, and here is what we found between us: the first time your breath comes out of your mouth like smoke as the water vapour in your... the time when you can stop nagging the children to wear a hat and have to start nagging them to wear a jumper, or when you wake up in spring and hate the thought of porridge, so you go to muesli, and back again in autumn. Urban seasons are also divided by the first mention of “tinderbox” on the news. first Christmas music in a shop. first plastic bags of autumn. the first hot cross bun or plum pudding. the first advertisements for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, International Talk Like a Pirate Day, Halloween, Christmas, after-Christmas sales. the last swim of the season. first lighting of the gas heater at night. Thanks to these friends who threw suggestions at me: Matthew Ansell-Laurendet, Barbara Braxton, Mel Campbell, Peter Chubb, Toby Fiander, Jan Gidge, Anne Graham, Rachel Hennessy, Serene Johnson, Mary-Ellen Jordan, Tamara Kelly, Peter McBurney, Rob... You will see that I write mainly about science, and often about facts and events, but I'm not an historian, I'm a story-teller, and I write consumer history for both adults and children, depending on how the fit takes me on a given morning. I usually have one book coming back after editing or in production, one being edited, one being written and one or more being actively researched. Not Your Usual Bushrangers is now out, Not Your Usual Gold Stories will come out later this year, and The Big Book of Australian History , third edition, will be out soon.

This book provides an overview of the dynamics of the contemporary global political economy, with an emphasis on explaining these dynamics in both theoretical and practical terms. It opens with a chapter on exactly what the study of IPE entails, looking at the way in which politics and economics interact, the relationship between domestic and international factors, and the role of the state. Watson goes on to outline the major theoretical approaches to IPE, from the traditional theories including liberalism and Marxism, to alternative theories including rational choice and new institutionalism. In Part Two, she outlines the major policy issues characterizing IPE, and in Part Three, she looks at case studies to illustrate the theoretical points she has made. These include the world trade...

I am wearing my towel as a turban, which is how usually I dry my hair. I raise my Pangalactic Gargle Baster and salute the incredibly funny and talented Douglas Adams for gifting the world with The HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy, Dirk Gently's Detective Agency, Last Chance to See and the best Tom Baker Doctor Who episode ever. May 2012 Scavenger Challenge #25) BONUS! (not required) If you are a lover of Douglas Adams' "Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy" and related works, be sure you have your towel! Towel photos should be posted to the pool on May 25, International Towel Day. PS When I was a kid, my sisters and I used to wear the towels flat our heads, mimicking long hair, like the heroines in the Chinese sword-fighting movies. We would have plastic swords and jump and fly around, like girl Jedi knights. Taken with iPhone 4S.

Here's a link to how this same Edsel looked in 1959. I took this picture with my Brownie Hawkeye when I was thirteen. farm2.static.flickr.com/1286/544933741_8e82112e81.jpg A bit busy today and tomorrow, but will try to visit everyone's stream. Thanks for your patience When my stepfather first met my mother in 1959, he was driving a brand new 1958 Ford Edsel. At that time it was touted as being far ahead of its time. The big feature was the ability of the driver to shift gears by pushing buttons on a touch pad in the centre of the steering wheel. After a few years the Edsel was abandoned. It had become an embarrassment to Ford. The button shift did not live up to its potential, and was notorious for losing its timing. It sometimes took up to five seconds from the time you pushed a button until the time the transmission shifted, usually with a jolting 'thunk'. Further, the Edsel was an overly heavy car, even in an age of heavy cars. I did drive it a fair bit over a ten year...

Dang. My hairdryer fried my International adapter, so I have no power left. I'm just at the Starbucks borrowing a very nice man's Mac adapter while I wait for the Apple Store to open.
