Bilge Diaries: Replacing a bad pump

It was belt driven, sat in a higher, dryer section of the boat and looked practically medieval to me, or perhaps a steam punk prop. Research and a call to a friend told me this was probably a diaphragm pump and I found a few online that looked similar

Big tiring Day — Copenhagen, Denmark

Source: TravelPod.com TravelStream™ — Recent Entries at TravelPod.com

We had an early start this morning - alarm went off at 5. 45. It was easier being alone in room as we could turn on light and talk. We had a quick breakfast of the left over bread and cereal and yogurt then grabbed our bags and left - walking to the train station. there had already been nearly 400 riders go over the bridge by 6. 30am. We were told yesterday that, despite popular belief that Amsterdam has the most bikes in the world, it is actually Copenhagen that proudly owns that title. With Mel leading the way (as I would get lost. I have no head for direction) we made our way to the train station and headed to the airport. Unfortunately when we got to the airport we discovered that Mels drink bottle was leaking and water got into her phone (which was a replacement phone for the one that got water damage in Vietnam) and her passport. We were at the only place in the world that does not have hand dryers in the toilets so I spent the next hour or so fanning the passport trying to dry it and to make sure the pages didn't stick together. We boarded the plane - the benefit of flying with a frequent flyer - everyone was walking out of the terminal and heading to the steps at the front of the plane and queueing up to board the plane. Mel headed straight to the back of the plane and we were straight aboard. Quite a few followed us. We are flying Ryanair which is a budget airline so I knew we had to pay for food and drinks if we wanted them but there is no chuck up bags. and they hand out catalogues to those that want to read them for the flight but must be returned before the flight lands. We arrived at Brussels and I went straight to the toilets to find a hand dryer. I'd only been in there 5 minutes when Mel called out to me. I came out wondering what the rush was about - there weren't even any suitcases on our conveyor belt. then I looked at Mel standing with both cases - never had that happen so quickly before. Luckily again Mel knew where to go and the system so we were quickly on the bus heading to the town centre and walking to the hostel. We were booked into a dorm but they had a private for not much more , on special, and you don't have a lock out period (hostel you not able to go in between 11am - 3pm) and we would not have been able to check in then. So we went private and went straight to room. Poor Mel - she now can't charge her phone or connect it to her laptop. I went out and bought some rice to put phone in. I think a bit of an old wives tale but it is better than nothing. I took ages finding the rice - it is all in boxes not bags as I was looking for. Mel was waiting outside for me when I got back. We had 10 minutes to get to the city square 15 minutes away so I could do a free walking tour - Mel did one a month or two ago so didn't want to repeat it. There was a lot of history of the country - it feels like there is more history than... My tour guide was a short Irishman so he would climb on fences or sit on poles that stop cats entering the malls or on seats. One of the German tourists doing the tour pretty much told him off for standing on a seat and making it dirty as people sit on it. It was so spotless before he stood on it. Weird. We went to the 'Mannequin of Piss' - supposibly the third most famous statue in the world behind Statue of Liberty and statue of David. Mel met me at the finish point

Dryer Repair
Dryer Repair

Make sure that the air exhaust hose on your dryer is as short and has as few bends as possible. Otherwise, heat build-up can cause parts to wear prematurely, as with the roller wheel in our aging Maytag Neptune. This dryer was squeaking and squawking horribly every time we used it. It sounded like a loose belt, but it was actually a worn roller (basically a skateboard wheel that the drum sits on). You can get replacement parts online (I recommend NeptuneWaxMotor.com) but we actually hired a professional this time. This was at the back of the dryer and I really didn't want to try and remove the drum myself.
