Often times, when it comes to deep cleaning (carpet cleaning and so on), you are better off renting the supplies and/or doing it yourself. If you spread baking soda over your carpet, leave it be, and then vacuum it back up after a while – your carpet

A week or two before fall semester starts, students flood into college towns. Whether they are moving into their first year in an on-campus dorm of their last year in an off-campus apartment or house, there is always way too much time that needs to be spent on cleaning. Here are several cleaning hacks for lazy college students that will save you time and money:. Use a squeegee to remove hair from carpet. This is especially useful if you are in an off-campus living situation and have a pet. Not that vacuuming is much of a pain, but having a ton of hair caught inside of your vacuum will make you toss out money on something you really do not want to worry about having to buy when you are a college student. Spend twenty bucks on a squeegee and save yourself a hundred bucks on a new vacuum. Use baking soda to remove carpet stains. Often times, when it comes to deep cleaning (carpet cleaning and so on), you are better off renting the supplies and/or doing it yourself. If you spread baking soda over your carpet, leave it be, and then vacuum it back up after a while – your carpet should be as good as new. Your first step should be double-checking to make sure that if you have any maintenance staff – that they do not already have the tools you need. Renting a carpet cleaner can cost around twenty dollars for four hours, whereas hiring somebody to clean your carpet costs at least one hundred dollars per room. Use a coffee filter as a duster. Not many college students actually own dusters, but I can guarantee you that at least half of them own coffee filters. When it comes to dusting your room (especially ceiling fans), instead of cheating out and using toilet paper or paper towels (which leave fibers behind), use a coffee filter. Use toothpaste to clean your shoes. Not many college students, much less people, think about cleaning their shower head – but if it is spraying in all directions, then it is either dirty or broken. You can quickly and easily clean your shower head by mixing an equal amount of vinegar and water in a plastic bag and wrapping it around the shower head. Use baking soda and oil to deep clean your mattress. Regardless of where you are living, if you are a college student and you are using an already owned mattress – you are going to want to deep clean that without a doubt. All you need is baking soda, essential oil, and a vacuum to give yourself a residue-free mattress to get the beauty sleep you need for the upcoming formal…or the two hours of sleep you will need for an organic chemistry final. Use a toothbrush to clean your keyboard. Summer showers might leave your shoes all smelly – dry off your wet shoes quickly and effectively with newspapers. Interestingly enough, newspapers can also be used to remove smells from a fridge (just please do not use the same sheets of newspaper for both of these hacks at once). Try to give some of these cleaning hacks a whirl before the semester gets too busy and especially before the fridge fills up with expired pizza leftovers.

PRESS PLAY i made two of these paintings for the same person. in the end, i gained another one of my "sorry for pulling the rug out from under you" stories which i so enjoy sharing. these stories are fraught with the naivety of my own self, which just goes to show that toleration and kindness are truly gifts to the world. and, like any good gift, it is easily traded for something else. like drugs. anyway, back to the story. i lived on mount davidson when i first moved up to the city for the third time (1989, 1991, and 2010). and moving to the city is always a big deal for me. i dread social interaction, but i also love it. i'm fascinated by people, but i'm also a hyper processor of information and that makes it hard for others to be around me -- i'm a bit like a machine that won't stop working. only certain types of personality types can put up with this kind of behavior. and i know this, so i keep mostly to myself. but street photography was becoming a great...

Roslindale Historical Society The story of our community, Roslindale, necessarily begins with the arrival of the first settlers in the area. Rather than settling in what is now Boston, some of the early settlers journeyed across the narrow piece of land known as Boston Neck, and made their homes there. What was then the town of Roxbury, settled on September 28, 1630, only three weeks after the official date of the settlement of Boston; it was about two miles wide and eight miles long, running from Boston to Dedham. The region abounded in rocks, and thus became known as Roxbury, originally spelled “Rocksbury.” The western part of Roxbury was known as Jamaica End or West Roxbury, and our community of Roslindale was part of this area. It was not until the establishment of a post office on March 15, 1870, that this community became known as Roslindale. It is interesting to find the geological reasons, which influenced the history of this area. Going back 500,000,000 years, we find this...

I took some video of the encore, where they played "The Mariner's Revenge Song". Video starts about half way through, at the second refrain of the mother. We are two mariners Our ship's sole survivors In this belly of a whale It's ribs are ceiling beams It's guts are carpeting I guess we have some time to kill You may not remember me I was a child of three And you, a lad of eighteen But, I remember you And I will relate to you How our histories interweave At the time you were A rake and a roustabout Spending all your money On the whores and hounds (oh, oh) You had a charming air All cheap and debonair My widowed mother found so sweet And so she took you in Her sheets still warm with him Now filled with filth and foul disease As time wore on you proved A debt-ridden drunken mess Leaving my mother A poor consumptive wretch (oh, oh) And then you disappeared Your gambling arrears The only thing you left behind And then the magistrate Reclaimed our small estate And my poor...
